Artist Statement

I use the vocabulary of textiles to create sculptural forms that often reference body or nature. Hand knit wire is my primary technique.

The quiet repetition of a stitch is central to my existence.

My conceptual interests are influenced by conversations with two ecologists in my life. Our conversations revolve around the relationship between ecological research, concepts of evolutionary biology, and environmental crises. The poetic language of science and evolutionary biology as we discuss their ideas ignites my work and increases my concern with ecological matters. Into this artistic inquiry I bring my love of tactile materials and the rich tradition of textiles, to create two and three dimensional work related to these experiences

Materiality, textile tradition stretched to a point of surprise, and ecological/evolutionary/biological concerns form the triad that drives my work.
